
Camp Raanana Omanut (Arts and Crafts) Specialist
Qualifications:
• Desire and attitude to work with children in both small group and large group setting
• Prior experience in activity area; preferably in a teaching or leadership role
• Ability to accept guidance, constructive feedback, and support
• Ability to assist in teaching activities and running programs
• Willingness and ability to take full responsibility for safety and security of campers
• Ability to communicate with, relate to, and serve as an example to all campers
• Proven management, good communication and organizational skills, and the ability to be creative and
take direction/instruction
• Ability to pass a background check
• 18+ with High School diploma or equivalent
Omanut Responsibilities:
• Prepare for specialty activities; creating new program ideas and lesson plans
• Be knowledgeable and skillful in a variety of activities relevant to specialty area
• Create age appropriate activities that result in tangible projects for campers which they can take home
(including incorporating Jewish themes)
• Maintain a clean and organized environment for arts and crafts projects and create an inviting space for
campers and staff
• Assist counselors during their arts and crafts projects once directions are explained. Ensure supplies are
stocked, counselors are prepared.
• Act as extra supervision if needed, etc.
• Plan projects several weeks in advance to ensure all necessary supplies are available. Notify Camp
Director of any necessary materials that are low/out of stock.
General Responsibilities
• Assist during other parts of camp such as swimming on or off-camp trips, activities, programs and
special events
• Encourage creativity amongst staff and campers
• Be flexible in response to current and emergency situations and to shifts in responsibilities and
assignments when camp is underway
• Listen to, respect, follow the decisions, and report any emergencies or any inappropriate behavior to the
Camp Director (Waterfront/Assistant Waterfront Directors during waterfront or water activities)
• Listen to, and respect opinions of other staff including Ozrim (Counselor’s-In-Training), lifeguards, and
counselors
• Supervise groups of staff and campers, acting as guardian, advocate, and disciplinarian, and put their
best interests first
• Maintain a safe and healthy environment for campers, abiding by all camp rules/policies. Ability to
assist in emergencies
• Be a responsible, dedicated role model to the campers
• Provide organized, punctual, and intentional leadership, creativity, direction and supervision during
activities, trips in and around the camp
• Work with other staff members to provide a quality experience for all members of the camp community
Physical Demands:
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards
• Ability to enforce safety regulations and execute appropriate emergency procedure
• Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers
in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, injury) and possess strength and endurance require to
maintain constant supervision of campers
• Activities may include / require:
o Prolonged standing, walking
o Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment
o The need to lift up to 50 lbs
o Prolonged exposure to outdoor elements (sun, wind, rain, etc.) and animals or insects (bugs,
etc.)
Training
Staff training will be held prior to camp beginning. Applicant must be able to attend staff training.
Compensation
$15+/hour (including staff training). Absences unpaid.
*Camp Raanana @ Cedar Lake (9:00 AM-3:30
PM), mid-June through mid-August. You will take
a bus from the J to Cedar Lake and back every day

Morning Drop-off begins at 8 AM (we ask staff to arrive by 7:50 AM)
Afternoon Pick-up ends at 4:20 PM (we ask for staff to stay a little afterward for a daily check-in, and we have
staff meetings on Mondays)
Post-Camp Assistance
*Ability to provide Post-Camp Assistance for additional pay
Post-Camp Assistance to help with care and clean-up (4-6 PM)
