Freedom Songs Sing-a-Long
Mon January 20 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day, join educator, Matasha Allen, as she teaches and leads us in singing classic “freedom songs” that energized mass meetings during the civil rights movement of the 1960’s. This is a family-friendly, free event as part of a day celebrating diversity and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In addition to being a long time member of the Early Childhood Center education staff, Matasha Allen is the Operations Manager for the Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra. She sang and played the viola while attending Shelby County Public Schools (in Shelbyville, Kentucky. As a child, she recruited family and friends to perform her original songs on her grandparents’ patio). Her teachers encouraged her to study music in college, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in Vocal Performance from Fisk University in Nashville. Matasha loves children, believing that “it takes a village to raise a child.” Her passion is creating experiential educational performances.
