6th Annual One Candle for Tzedakah
December 10 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
An Evening Celebrating Hanukkah!
Chanukah comes early in December this year, and we are continuing our tradition of saving one night for giving instead of receiving. Join us for One Candle for Tzedakah, when our community gathers to celebrate the Jewish Festival of Lights by giving to families in need. We will enjoy a meal and other activities, but the main focus of the evening will be wrapping your donated gifts for the families who would not other wise have the means to enjoy the holiday season. The Ann Arbor JCC is proud to once again partner with Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County to provide gifts to the children of refugee families receiving resettlement support from JFS.
Give back this holiday season, and make it brighter for someone else by buying a gift for a refugee child:
We are looking to have our community members purchase gifts for over 50 families containing 129 children from infancy through 19. Please come into the J and pick a tag off the menorah in the lobby or choose a child off the sign-up genius. Gifts purchased should not exceed $30 per child. You do not need to attend the One Candle program to participate in this wonderful tzedakah project. All gifts need to be delivered to the J by end of day Friday, December 7, 2019.
You may register for One Candle for Tzedakah by clicking on the links below:
Individuals: $12/member or $15/non-member
Households: $30/member or $35/non-member
Schedule of events:
The evening begins with dinner and hands-on Hanukkah activities.
During dinner, participants can join in the wrapping party to wrap their donated gifts and make greeting cards to go with them.
After dinner, we will join together in lighting our one candle for tzedakah on the menorah.
Finally, Dr. Nitro joins us to present his Mad Science show. He will help you breathe like a dragon and make ice cream before your very eyes!
Chanukah Dinner Menu
Mac & Cheese & Fish Sticks for the kids
Vegetable Frittata for the adults
Latkes (potato pancakes) with applesauce & sour creme for all
Brownies & Sufganiyot (doughnut-holes)
Since 2013, the J is proud to have donated gifts to 72 refugee children, nearly 500 toys to Toys for Tots, and $250 to Food Gatherers because of your goodwill. We thank you for your past donations, and in advance for this year’s generosity.
