The J’s Israel Center and the Jewish Cultural Arts and Education (JCAE) department present a special Falafel and Film event to celebrate the conclusion of the first Israel Center program series, as well as preview the upcoming Ann Arbor Jewish Film Festival (May 13-16, 2018 at the Michigan Theater). This event is co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor.
6:00PM – Hummus Tasting and Falafel Dinner
Come taste and vote on your favorite hummus from local restaurants in this blind tasting. You’ll find out which local restaurant’s hummus the group liked best at the end of the film!
7:00PM – Film: An Israeli Love Story
Watch this compelling tale based on the true story of the love affair between Pnina Gary, from Nahalal, and Eli Ben–Zvi, son of Rachel Yanait and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi the Second President of the State of Israel. The film is set during the turbulent period of pre-state Israel. Margalit meets Eli on a bus and falls in love with him instantly. She tries to get close to him but he’s too busy with the Palmach. Finally, the barriers come down, Margalit moves in with Eli, they set a date for their wedding, but Israel’s harsh reality intervenes. View the trailer!
