Health and wellness are important for everyone. At the J, we make sure you can include health and fitness as part of your day with classes that fit your busy schedule.

The best part is: you don’t even need to be a paying member to take our classes (though members do get discounted pricing)!

New clients should arrive 5-10 minutes early to fill out a waiver (depending on the class).

Callanetics

Tuesdays and Thursdays – 9:30-10:30AM

Instructor: Diane Dahl

Callanetics is a safe, non-impact exercise plan that strengthens and tones. There is no strenuous breathing or sweating. It tightens and reshapes the body while increasing muscle strength and flexibility.  Callanetics focuses on isolated muscle groups. The polished exercises are precisely coordinated with each other to train all muscle groups both gently and efficiently.

Israeli Dancing

Thursdays – 7:30-9:30 PM (Moving to Mondays starting September 11, 2017)

Instructors: Laura and Amnon Steiner, Cheryl Litt, and Cheryl Feit

Every Thursday dancers can request their favorites and learn the latest Israeli dances, line dances, oldies and more. All skill levels are welcome and new dances are taught each week.

Low-Impact Exercise

Tuesdays & Thursdays – 11:00-12:00 PM

Instructors: Maria Farquhar and Julia Braden

Low impact exercise benefits every part of the body, including the mind. Exercises in this class are done with the aid of a chair while sitting and standing and may include bands or light weights. The workout contains balance and strengthening endurance exercises. To increase each person’s energy, different techniques are introduced: Chinese self-massage, Qigong practice to draw energy from nature, and Donna Eden’s energy exercise routines. For cool downs, some Tai Chi practices are used.

Tai Chi for Seniors

Wednesdays – 1:00-2:30 PM

Instructor: Karla Groesbeck from Good EnerChi Studios

Tai Chi is a very peaceful, low impact, body movement. It can be done standing or even sitting. It is an easy, mental and physical exercise. Studies have proven that Tai Chi improves balance, health and memory, for every age-group and body type. It is an effective and popular exercise as it can be done anywhere, anytime and without any added equipment or special clothing.

Yoga and Meditation

Tuesdays – 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Instructor: April Lark

Yoga is a practiced discipline designed to sustain overall health, relaxation and well-being.  Through concentration, breathing exercises and physical postures, this class aims to release tension and stress in areas of the body and mind that are impacted by the dynamics of modern life.  With focus on alignment and linking breath wit movement, this class provides gentle yet profound techniques to help build strength, body awareness and self-confidence.  This class is for beginners and seasoned yogis alike.  There will be modifications and variations for postures offered.

Zumba

Sundays – 9:30 – 10:30AM

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays  – 9:00-10:00 AM

Instructors: Karen Silverman and Susie Seigle

Zumba is a high intensity, low impact aerobic dance class. Features include Latin & international rhythms including merengue, salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, flamenco, and samba and Bhangra. You will get a total body workout through a combination of easy to follow dance and fitness steps. It’s exercise in disguise.
